CHARTREUSE ENEMY’S BELLY

The interestingly titled ‘Enemy’s Belly’ comes from Chartreuse’s upcoming (October 2020) EP, Keep Checking Up On Me. The track maintains various modern, electronic sounds throughout, but is centred on folky melodies and a shuffling pattern created by the drums and bass, which operate together like a well-oiled machine. Vocalist Michael Wagstaff explains that the track “was written a few years ago and originally started with the bass parts. We had never started an idea like that before so it took a bit of trial and error. We ended up recording it all into the computer and cutting and sticking and arranging it like that which was a new process for us. We then learnt how to play it together.” The band claim this is one of their favourite tracks to play live, and hopefully, we’ll be able to see it in all its glory come December 2020: they’ve boldly organised a three-night mini-tour, which we’re hoping will be able to go ahead! -Dan Peeke
